Welcome to 2016 – a message from Charlie Denaro

31st January, 2016

Hello everyone and welcome to season 2016

Firstly, l would like to congratulate our thirds last year on a fantastic premiership win, and our seconds who did a great job in playing finals. Both coaching panels and all the boys involved did a wonderful job and deserved all the success that came their way. Unfortunately our firsts didn’t do as well and finished the season in last place. Such is football L

Having said that, we come into season 2016 full of optimism and anticipation as we go about setting up a spring board for what will hopefully be a hugely enjoyable and successful year.

We introduced a running program in October that gave players the opportunity to keep fit. It was run by Mark Chamley who has vast experience including working with TAC Cup teams, Athletics Australia ( currently training Olympic hopefuls ), as well as been recruited as a fitness coach at the Carlton Football Club for season 2016. I’m excited to announce that Mark will remain with us this season, and hopefully beyond, and will be involved with our teams in a fitness capacity.
Along with Mark, l have great pleasure in announcing Victor Micallef as our seconds coach. After a first up premiership, l can assure you Victor is still not satisfied and is desperate to impart his football knowledge onto the boys again this year. Blaise Ferraro will again be my assistant coach. Along with being a premiership coach of the all-conquering u14s of 2014, the clubs only senior premiership captain has one of the best football minds l have seen. And myself, l have been around a while and this is probably my most anticipated season of coaching I’ve had.
Add to that, our Vice President Michael Grech is doing an incredible job behind the scenes and along with the rest of the committee, is setting everything in place for a huge year for the Sharks.

As a club, our philosophy will remain the same
· To provide a safe and enjoyable environment for all

· Provide an environment for the boys to grow as footballers and more importantly as young men

As for myself, this year more than ever will be about providing opportunities for those willing to put in the hard work.

Attitude, Respect, Discipline and Commitment will be our main focus, as opposed to winning games. If we can show and excel at these attributes, not only will we all become better people, but winning will be the result.

Our training will commence on Tuesday 9th February at Taylors Hill 6.00pm – 8.00pm

I will provide all players the further schedule of training dates and venues on that night.

Please don’t hesitate to call me on 0400 452 462 or email me at cdenaro@scentregroup.com if you have any questions or concerns.

To the old, welcome back…..To the new, welcome to Hillside Football Club….. For us all, GO SHARKS
