The Hillside Football Club (SHFC) – also known as the Sharks was formed in 1999 by a small group of parents and comprised of children and their families residing in the Sydenham, Hillside and surrounding areas.
Given the fact that this region is one of the fastest growing areas in Melbourne, there is a huge window of opportunity for this club to be one of the most prominent and successful clubs in the EDFL.
With Under 10 and Under 14 Premierships earned early by the club, other notable achievements include an adult membership of over 100 social club members, 400 associate members and over 300 playing members in competitive teams in every age group to the senior level. All this is complemented by an impressive club facility in Hillside, including lighting towers to enable night games. Major extensions to the clubrooms were carried out in 2007/08 with car-parking and ground improvements also carried out.
The club has been blessed with a myriad of generous sponsors who have supported the Sharks from inception. Our major sponsors have been brilliant in their support for the Sharks and thus the local community. We need to continue to grow and provide the opportunity for players of all ages to develop their football skills, to experience the benefits of teamwork and to widen their association with other residents in their own area -reinforcing a sense of community spirit. We trust this will be the strength of this club in the years to come.
2005 saw the advent of senior football at the Sharks and although on field success was limited in this first year, all players enjoyed being part of this new and dynamic club. With a strong junior base and with over 200 kids doing our Auskick program, the club realizes that it has the wealth of raw ingredients available that can be moulded into champion footballers of the future.
